The Year 1934 saw the setting up of the first Cuchulainn’s, one of the most successful teams the club has produced. They won the junior league in 1938, the junior championship in 1942, and in the same year they reached the senior championship final only to be defeated by Armagh Harps. Unfortunately a decline in standards mainly due to emigration, would led to the first Cuchulainns expiring in 1947.
The year 1979 saw the formation of the 3rd Cuchulainns, but their luck did not change as yet another intermediate final defeat was to follow that year.
For the first time in our history we entered the Ulster Club Championship. The road to Clones started with a victory over Cairgin of Antrim in the quarterfinals, which was followed by an excellent win over Castleblaney in the semi-final. This game will go down as one of the best games the club has participated in. In the Ulster final we played Baileborough of Cavan. The match was a toughly contested affair but despite a nervous finish we achieved something beyond our wildest dreams, a coveted Ulster Championship.
