Lissummon is a small enclave on the northern tip of Bessbrook Parish. Some claim it to be one of the smallest units of the GAA as it is based in a sparsely populated area of less than sixty dwellings.

History recalls both hurling and camogie teams in this district at the beginning of the 1900's. The name, Lissummon, is said to be derived from the game of hurling - Lios Iomána - the fort of the hurling.

Local folklore suggests that Gaelic Games were common in the area as long ago as 1880 although it was 1925 before an official unit took over a field. Like many other clubs in that era, progress was rather intermittent with the result that no competitions were contested by the club for many a season.

Since the reformation of the club in 1972 there has also been a keen interest in Ladies Football. Indeed the Ladies Team was actually formed in 1972 and led through that era by Hugh Meehan. In later years his two son's - Brian and Francis have taken over this mantle with considerable success at the Junior Championship Level in 1994 and 1999 and runners up in the Senior Championship in 1996.
